Medals are given to encourage people to keep doing their work with the same enthusiasm or do it in a better way. It also inspires others to do the same to achieve it. In this article, we will talk about two very important medals given by the US that is an Army commendation medal and Army achievement medal.
Army Commendation medal is one of the very high ranking medals in the United States. It is awarded for showing the act of meritorious achievement, an act of Heroism and action of meritorious service.
Initially, it was awarded only with a ribbon after some time, it used to be awarded a pendant, and currently, it is given with medallion.
Initially, It was awarded only to the US army who is serving the country after 6th December 1941. But soon after some years it also started awarding Army of other nations who did some job in the benefits of both the US and self. For such countries, the award is given to those who acted brilliantly while in service after first June 1962.
Structure of the medallion
The metallic part of the medal is a medallion. It is in the form of a regular hexagon whose width is approx 1 and 3/8 inches. Only Bronze is used to prepare this metal. On this medallion, there is a symbol of a bald eagle whose face direction is towards left and who’s wings are open and from right to left. The eagle is shown holding the bunch of three intersecting arrows. The head of all these arrows is also towards left. On the chest of the eagle, there is the shape of a shield with some parallel and equally spaced vertical and horizontal lines which do not cross each other.
Ribbon
The ribbon of this Army commendation medal is 1 and 3/8 inches wide. The total number of stripes in this ribbon is 13 stripes. Six out of them are green, and the remaining seven are white. Both the two left and right edges of the fabric are white and in the center, there are five equally spaced stripes, spaced with four green lines in between them.
Army achievement medal
The rank of this medal is lower than the position of Commendation medal. It is also given to people from the military only.
In the Army, there are other people also who do not take part directly in the fight but play a vital role in this. Initially, this award was given mainly for such people who are not eligible for getting commendation or any other higher-ranked award but still their work can not be ignored. It was to appreciate their work and inspire others who are from the same field. But now it is given in the combat area also.
There are five types of Achievement awards which are given in the Navy and Marine Corps, Army, Joint Services, The Coast Guard and Air force.
Structure
Medallion
It is a regular octagonal medal whose width is one and a half-inch approx. It is also a bronze metal like compensation medal.
On the bottom of the medallion 1775 is embossed and ‘For Military Achievement ‘ is embossed on the medallion also. The Medallion central part is being one first figure which is made using different types of pictures within.
The ribbon
The width of its ribbon is approx 1 and 3/8 inches. These are a total of 11 stripes in the ribbon. Two broadest blue lines in the center with one white stripe in between them, two white and two green alternative spaced stripes on it’s right and same on the left.
