According to a report, there have been over 109,500 confirmed cases from the novel corona virus across the world. Out of which more than 500 infected corona virus positive people are in the US itself, where 40 people have already claimed death from the novel strain of COVID – 19.
In the medical billing industry from the beginning of the COVID – 19 pandemic outburst, the healthcare providers had to deal with many challenges such as lack of proper resources, patient financial responsibility insufficient equipment and many more.
Along with growing unemployment rates are generating more medical billing, coding and documentation challenges than usual. Lack of proper billers and codes experts and proper knowledge for the COVID- 19 billing and coding process is also the matter of concern for many healthcare providers
However to eliminate the pressure that the medical industry is facing today many healthcare practices even had to remove or postpone their normal services. It does not end here, AMA the American Medical Association for seamless billing and coding process is fast-tracking the development of a unique Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code; which is only used for the purpose of novel corona virus testing. In fact to provide proper care to the patients, many healthcare practices have opened the telehealth platform too.
However, even though great steps and action are taken to stop Corona – 19, all this is nothing, if healthcare providers do not have a proper medical billing, coding, claims management as well as telemedicine problems in this COVID – 19 crisis.
Dipak Nandi MD a New York based entrepreneur and veteran in the healthcare domain said “in this period of crisis a healthcare provider should not only look for an operational extension that can support the billing and coding activities but a perfect operational extension that can offer a full continuum of medical billing, coding, as well as telehealth solution is beneficial.”
