Pre-Employment Screening is designed to acknowledge the information provided by the candidates in their presumes and applications.
Processes of Pre-Employment Background Check
As with different geographic region, the process of employee background check varies, there are several processes of Pre-Employment Screening
Verification of education and academic credentials
The company will check with the college or university from where the applicant claims to have the degree mentioned and will verify the degree and other credentials provided. A resume is great, but it does not provide authentication for the information a candidate has provided. This is the reason behind the cross-checking of all the documents by the company.
Prior employment verification
It consists of information concerning a designation, job performance, salary, and longevity. A reference check can help in conducting this. There are ways for checking reference such as communicate with the HR of the previous company and ask intended questions. Some reference checks can be done by speaking with coworkers and former bosses.
Drug screens and physical testing
Some of the job profiles require drug screening and other procedures to acknowledge the health status and fitfulness of the applicant employers also need to ensure that a drug screening and physical test is directly related to the content and nature of the job. However, there are a handful of jobs that requires a physical test.
Skills and knowledge testing
Based on the job designation, companies are keen to assess the skill and knowledge that the applicant has disclosed. It makes the employer sure about whether the candidate has the promised skill or not. For example, if a candidate is applying for the designation of HR Executive but has limited knowledge regarding a human resource, then the candidate will be not worthy at all, so testing must be in some places. Applicants for an HR recruiter position might need to come up with a recruitment improvement plan. It will convince the employer that the aspiring applicant has the requisite skills and knowledge.
An internet search
An internet search especially on Google.com, on the candidate’s name, confirms his/her clams regarding the jobs, performance, and awards, etc. This is not part of the official background check and is generally carried out before the interview. The recruiter simply performs a search over the internet about a candidate.
Criminal background check
According to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC), personal arrest records cannot be applied by the employer as a negative employment action tat includes hiring, suspending and firing. That’s why, conducted by a professional background checking firm, the charges against a candidate won’t be shown to the employer unless they are morphed into conviction.
For jobs that involve the handling of money such as financial or accounts professionals, a candidate must go through a credit test. An applicant has to sign in documents that allow them to check the credits. However, EEOC strongly warns against the use of credit checks.
Several companies are conducting Pre-Employment Background Check and Pre-Employment Screening to employ potential candidates having the capability to boost up organizational performance.
